Okoboji Foundation Endowment

Allows donors with broad charitable interests to respond to the most pressing community needs with our annual grant process.

Legacy Society

For those who have included the Okoboji Foundation in their estate plans and those who have cumulative contributions to the Okoboji Foundation Endowment Fund of $100,000 or more. If you have included the Okoboji Foundation in your will, please let us know so we may thank you for the lasting positive impact you make.

Endow Iowa Tax Credit

The Okoboji Foundation Endow Iowa Fund allows Iowa taxpayers a 25% state tax credit in addition to normal federal charitable income tax deductions with donations to a qualified Endow Iowa Fund.

Family of Funds

The Okoboji Foundation serves as an umbrella for a group of related funds giving donors the ability to personalize their giving. Donor advised, committee directed, field of interest or designated funds allow donors to direct their own grants to specific charities.

Leadership Grants

Requests of $25,000 or more are reviewed by the Grants Committee. Selection is made by vote of members invested in Okoboji Foundation Endowment Fund.

Community Needs Grants

Requests of $500 to $24,999 are reviewed by the Youth Council* and Grants Committee. Selection is made by vote of members.

Grant Funding Guidelines

Projects must be visible, available to a large portion of the public and have a lasting positive impact in the Iowa Great Lakes region.

Grant funding priorities are determined by investors in the Okoboji Foundation and include the following: Culture, Education, Environment, Economic Development, History, Life-Saving, and Recreation.

The Okoboji Foundation typically funds grants for one year and rarely grants a multi-year award. Community Needs Grant recipients must complete projects and request reimbursement within one year of their award notification. Leadership Grant recipients must complete projects and request reimbursement within three years of their award notification.

Funding will not be used for operating/recurring expenses, advertising, special events or for projects or events that have already been completed.

Funding is available to non-profit, I.R.S. 501(c)(3)tax exempt organizations, 170(b) units of government organizations or charitable organizations without the above designations through a qualified fiscal agent.

The Okoboji Foundation requests that professional signage be included on structures and larger physical property funded by our grants in an effort to highlight our supportive partnerships.

Youth in Philanthropy

Youth in Philanthropy teaches the Next Generation about the importance of community giving. Students meet October through May to learn about the Okoboji Foundation and other Lakes Community nonprofits.

Become a Sponsor to provide grant awards that are steered by student decisions through the Okoboji Foundation annual grants.
